Spend Alerts
Spend threshold alerts in Octane provide a valuable mechanism for staying informed when a customer surpasses a predefined spending threshold within a specified time window. These alerts are designed to notify you when a customer exceeds a specified spending threshold within a defined time frame. This not only enhances transparency with your customers but also serves as a strategic tool to prevent potential fraudulent activities and identify upsell opportunities.
Octane offers flexible configurations for spend alerts, supporting various time windows and multi-threshold setups. When a spend alert is triggered, Octane sends a webhook to the configured URL, providing detailed information about the threshold breach. To enhance visibility into spending patterns, Octane generates additional webhooks when the spending approaches 50%, 70%, and 90% of the threshold for alerts (excluding the rolling window type).
For more information on the webhook structure and data, refer to our Webhooks Documentation. For more information the API, refer to our API Documentation.๏ปฟ
Octane currently supports four distinct time window configurations for spend alerts:
- Billing Cycle:
- Alerts are scoped to the current active billing cycle of the customer.
- Triggered when the customer exceeds the threshold within the active billing cycle.
- The alert resets with the start of a new billing cycle.
- Ideal for alerting Pay As You Go customers about specific spending milestones within their billing cycle.
- Calendar:
- Requires specifying a calendar length: "day," "week," "month," or "year."
- Triggered when the customer surpasses the threshold within the defined calendar period.
- The alert resets with the start of a new calendar period.
- "day" starts at 00:00 every day, "week" starts at Sunday 00:00 every week, "month" starts on the 1st of every month at 00:00, and "year" starts on 1st Jan every year at 00:00.
- Rolling Window:
- Lets you specify a rolling window interval in days.
- Triggered when the threshold is exceeded within the rolling window.
- The alert resets every calendar day, allowing for continuous monitoring.
- Suitable for scenarios where continuous tracking is crucial, without sending intermediate notifications for threshold approaches.
- One Time:
- Enables specification of a one-time date.
- Triggered when the threshold is exceeded since the specified date.
- Alerts expire within a year of the one-time date if not crossed.
Each customer can have a maximum of 10 spend threshold alerts configured, allowing for fine-tuning and customization based on individual customer requirements.
